Spring Cleaning - Why do we do it?

Have you done your spring cleaning yet? Everyone is familiar with the process of spring cleaning and still we do it despite the fact it isn't as necessary these days. In the past, having log fires every night during the winter would fill houses with ash and smoke and by springtime they needed a good cleanout. This would generally involve a complete top-to-bottom clean for the house so it is cleaner for the coming months. However, it is curious that spring cleaning is still a popular ritual even though few of us now rely on log fires as our primary means of heating through the winter. It seems cleanliness isn't the only reason behind spring cleaning. It is also a way of welcoming the new season in with a neat, tidy and healthy house; a positive start for the warmer months to come. So if you haven't done your spring cleaning yet, you better get out your duster and broom and get sweeping! |
